I have sought out specialized consent training through the Intimacy Directors and Coordinators Inc (IDC). Before Intimacy Coordinators became common on sets, costumers were often holding this bag, without necessarily having the training to advocate properly when issues of consent arose. In many cases we find ourselves in this position if issues of consent come up when an IC is not scheduled for that specific workday. Because our jobs typically involve asking performers if they are comfortable, providing options and discussing levels of dress and undress, as well as navigating a host of other personal and cultural sensitivities, we are likely to be the ones performers first come to when sharing concerns. Having this training myself allows me to work from an informed position when communicating with both actors and crew.
